I stand in the corner, feeling lost in space, a fish out of water. There are people all around me, yet I am all alone. My eyes dart around the dark, packed hall as I panic---I stand solitary, my arms packed tightly against my body. I thought today would be amazing, the first day of the rest of my life and I'm the only one that knows I'm there. I put on my best clothes, took extra care with my long brown hair, even though no one can see it. I have no clue why I'm so cramped in my corner, I have so much room but I don't move. I just shift my eyes down to the tiled floor as the school bell rings, and I'm off to tackle the rest of my life.

I lie in my bed, staring at the ceiling, even though I can see nothing in the nonexistant light. Thoughts of you rush my head like the tide, even though you're the last thing I want on my mind. Every time I'm almost asleep, a new thought makes its way into my head, crushing any hopes of dreaming that I still have. I glance up at the glowing red numbers on my alarm clock--1:37 AM. I close my eyes, dead set on dreaming---and there you are again, nagging at the edge of my brain until I finally let you in, remembering how the sun glints off your hair, how your laugh sounds, how big your eyes are. I watch the stars shooting across midnight sky from my bedroom window, so distant yet so close it seems as if I could touch them. I stand next to my window for a long while, day-dreaming about the day I'll be free to do what I want, the day my dreams will finally come first. When the time comes, I can chase those stars if I want. I sigh, staring at a star shooting across the sky and wishing for that day to come. Then everything is a black abyss filled with pulsating, colorful lights. I scream out, and then all is black and I can feel nothing. I wake on the floor by my window with a splitting headache.
